Nick Gierisch of Moama won Best Truck 4-8 years.

In the 12 months since Moama’s Nick Gierisch bought his second-hand Kenworth 909, he estimates to have spent $30,000 to customise it to his needs.

But the investment and effort paid off for Mr Gierisch, who won the Deniliquin Truck Show & Industry Expo Best Truck 4-9 Years on Saturday.

The 2012 model is used day-to-day to cart bitumen across the country for his business Gierisch Trucking which he established in 2012.

‘‘I’ve been in the industry on and off for the last 17 years, originally getting my start in Albury,’’ he said.

‘‘I bought this truck last year from a guy I sub-contract with, and I’ve spent a heap of money on endless customisations.’’

Customised roof lights have been fitted, and Mr Gierisch replaced the standard round headlights with square ones.

‘‘I’ve also customised the guards, the exhaust, painted the cab trim, painted the back deck and customised the tail lights,’’ he said.
