Darryl Miles has lived out a dream of claiming the coveted Deni Ute Muster Ute of the Year title.

After finishing runner-up last year, his 1978 Holden HZ ‘one-tonner’ ute was awarded the top prize at this year’s Coates Hire Show ‘N’ Shine event.

Mr Miles, from Gledswood Hills in Sydney, said the win was the icing on the cake for him.

‘‘I completed all of the work on the ute myself,’’ he said.

‘‘I was pretty happy when I finished runner-up last year so to win is a dream come true.

‘‘The ute has spent three years on the road now so it’s a pretty proud moment for me to win.’’

This was just Mr Miles’ second time at the Muster, with last year being his first.

‘‘It was interesting last year with all the mud,’’ he said.

‘‘Last year the ute won Best Holden as well as finishing runner-up.

‘‘It has a mix of a few different cars in it, with a 2000 Holden Commodore interior and engine.’’

Mr Miles’ ute was declared the winner for various reasons, according to the judges.

Their decision read as follows:

‘‘It was clearly the most outstanding ute.

‘‘Darryl did most of the work himself and his passion for his ute is clearly shown in its presentation.

‘‘His ute is used regularly, showing its reliability, and with its unique tray on the back, you can’t go past it.’’

Mr Miles received a $4000 cash prize for winning the event.
