Mathoura Rural Fire Service firefighters were quick to contain a boat fire reported in the Gulpa forest area of the Murray Valley National Park on Monday.

Zone RFS district assistant Terry Campbell said the boat’s owners called for help about 9.30am, with Mathoura’s firefighters dispatched within five minutes.

‘‘The fire was easily contained, and there appeared to be no further fire damage (to the area),’’ Mr Campbell said.

‘‘National Parks and Wildlife Service will continue to monitor the area.’’

The Bush Fire Danger period started on October 1 for the Mid Murray Zone.

Any sightings of a fire should be reported by calling 000.
