Firefighters and landholders were luckily able to contain a grassfire at Keri Keri on Tuesday, limiting its destruction of grazing country on private property.
Terry Campbell from the NSW Rural Fire Service Mid Murray Zone said the fire was reported to the Yanga RFS captain about 3.24pm, and took over an hour to control.
‘‘It was all wrapped up by 4.55pm,’’ Mr Campbell said,
‘‘The grassfire looked like it might get away on private property, on Perekerton Rd, but it was pulled up before it burned 10 hectares.
‘‘Yanga responded and Moulamein and Kyalite were called to assist, but both were turned back before arriving because the fire was under control.
‘‘What helped was that the property owners had road graders handy, and were able to create some fire breaks.’’
