Three unlocked cars were targeted by thieves in Deniliquin on Wednesday evening, according to police.

Deniliquin Police Inspector John Aichinger said the three incidents were in Sloane St, Wood St and Fowler St.

Wallets were stolen from two of the vehicles, as well as a small amount of cash from one of them.

‘‘We’ve said it before and the message is clear ... if you lock your car it is less likely to be broken into,’’ Insp Aichinger said.

‘‘Many other properties and their locked cars seemed to be untouched.

‘‘One of the cars was only ransacked. In another of the cars was a wallet with personal cards and identification.

‘‘In the third car was a lady’s wallet containing $50.’’
