Deniliquin Athletic season has been running for seven weeks and the club’s athletes are creating new personal bests each week.

Each Friday night each age group takes part in four events and last week 135 new PBs were achieved.

Bede Orr, Ben Crossley, Luke Moodie, Connor Wilson, Alvin Cooper, Jemika Cooper, Oscar Wren and Arabella Bliss all achieved the maximum four new PBs on Friday.

This is a perfect lead up to start the carnival season.

Last weekend 34 athletes represented the club at the Finley twilight carnival.

While all the carnival details are still being collated, the Deniliquin team went home with plenty of PBs, medals and smiles.

The annual Deniliquin Carnival is on Saturday, November 11 starting at 1.30pm. It will be a great chance for the club to showcase its excellent equipment and facilities at the Rams oval.

This equipment includes timing gates purchased with the assistance of Edward River Council’s community grant last year, which are wonderful asset to the club reducing the volunteers required.

The club is expecting over 180 athletes at its Twilight Carnival and already has athletes travelling from Albury, Shepparton, Echuca, Bendigo, Wangaratta, Kyabram and Cohuna.

To ensure the local members all have the opportunity to experience a carnival event the club has discounted the entry fee to $3 per event for members. Entries must be in by November 5.

Deniliquin Athletic Club also invites members of the public to come and watch and support all the athletes’ efforts.

The club says it is fortunate to have many ex-members helping out at its carnivals.

Officials would also welcome any extra assistance. If you’re available to help please contact Leanne Mulham on 0447357437 or email [email protected] to be added to the roster.

The club has a fully operational canteen and has Intersport Bennett’s on site selling athletic shoes and equipment.

The club would like to thank the generous businesses around town which have donated goods towards the raffle that will be drawn at the carnival. They are Intersport Bennett’s, Deniliquin Jewellers, Wired Entertainment, Central IGA and Roundabout Tyres.

Other sponsors that support the carnival and club throughout the year include Fleming Partners, Harvey Norman, Baker’s Delight, Bendigo Bank, Rams Football and Netball Club, and Edward River Council.

Carnival entries must be in this Friday, when the club will be holding a barbecue.

Members are invited to stick around and support the club’s fundraising efforts.
