Smoke which wafted over the township of Deniliquin on Friday night was from a series of permit burns, according to the Rural Fire Service.
Mid-Murray Zone district officer Phil Brunsdon said of the 10 permits issued for stubble burns, six were in the Deniliquin area.
He said it resulted in smoke drifting over the town, but confirmed none of the burns were out of control.
Deniliquin’s NSW Fire & Rescue brigade was called to the Southern Cross Care Orana apartments yesterday morning to extinguish a stove-top fire.
Captain Martin Smith said the fire was in the common area kitchen of the aged care facility in Napier St.
Firefighters extinguished the small blaze quickly and ventilated the area, all before 9am.
Residents and staff were evacuated during the incident.
