Classic weekend to start busy month

November 03, 2017

It’s Spring Classic weekend and that means a huge couple of days at the club.

Good luck to all players, and on behalf of the club our thanks to Harvey Norman Deniliquin for its generous sponsorship again this year.

We are expecting two days of delightful spring weather, in contrast to the downpours which interrupted last year’s Spring Classic, so it is shaping up as a ripper weekend.

At this time of year the course is generally busy, with lots of events for the benefit of members and visitors.

Next Sunday, November 12, is the annual Legacy Charity Day and the following Sunday, November 19, is the Channel 4 Change Charity Day, supporting Brenda Norman’s English Channel swim to raise awareness of mental health.

These are two events worthy of your support. Both will be 11.30am gathering for 12 noon shotgun start and you can register in the Pro Shop.

For juniors who want to learn the game, or improve their skills, the Junior Golf Clinics will return from 4pm tonight.

A popular annual competition is our Summer Sixers, giving novice and experienced golfers a chance to enjoy a friendly nine hole competition at their leisure each week. This year’s Summer Sixers starts next Monday. Registrations are being taken in the Pro Shop.

We have had another busy week on the golf course.

On Saturday John Radeski scored 40 points for a narrow win in A grade from Norm Purtill, with 39.

Russell McDonald scorched around the course with an impressive 48 points to easily win B grade from Brian Dudley (39) and Jack Pekin had 39 to win C grade by two shots from Greg Bulmer.

Sunday was the South School charity day, where the Marshall family came to the fore with 54 in the ambrose competition. The winning team was Todd, Tony and Sam Marshall, with Mark Rourke.

Wednesday’s stableford event was taken out in A grade by Peter Joice with 39 points from Mark Thomas (37), and in B grade Paul ‘Tango’ McMillan had 42 to defeat another old timer in Rod Parks, also with 42.

Last Thursday the ladies played fourball, won by Glenda Campbell and Coral Maher on countback from Jan Lord and Pat Aitken, with 44 points.
