Ladies claim away wins

Deniliquin’s ladies celebrated away wins in both divisions on Friday against Echuca White in Campaspe Valley Bowls pennant.

In Division One, Fay Munnerley’s team of Joanne Bovell, Lynne Smith and Winnie Pattinson led the way with an 11-shot win over their Echuca opponents.

At the sixth end the locals were down by two shots, but by the 20th they were in the lead by 11 and then shared the ends to the finish.

Vicki O’Keefe, Joy McArthur, Dawn McCulloch and Aileen Kennedy streaked away and by the 12th end were leading 16-6. The Deni quartet were pegged back over the remaining ends, however, to be all square with one end to go.

Deni rallied to claim a ‘three’ on the final end which was the final difference, 26-23.

Jill Grimshaw, Jenny Tonta, Brenda Leetham and Robyn Little fought back from being six down at the 13th end to make the scores 23 all at the 21st end. The Deni ladies were unable to keep it going though and the end result was a six-shot loss, 23-29.

This Friday Division One teams remain the same when they meet Echuca Blue at Echuca (cars - leads).

In Division Three, Caryn Hillier’s team of Helen Anderson, Toni Brooksby and Maxine Norton had a field day. only allowing the Echuca side to score on eight of the 25 ends.

The Deni team scored three ‘fours’ and a ‘six’ on their way to a 23-shot win, 34-11.

Barbara Berry, Joy Mann, Glenys Chessells and Joan Gamble scored six, two and five on the first three ends to lead 13-0, and although scoring was shared from here on the damage had been done. Final score was in favour of Deni, 30-21.

It was an overall win by 32 shots to Division Three which travels to Tongala this Friday.

The teams are: Barbara Berry (s), Joy Mann, Glenys Chessells and Rosie Jukes; Caryn Hillier (s), Helen Anderson, Toni Brooksby and Maxine Norton. Cars - leads.
