Rope cut, boat missing from Murray

Police are investigating the suspected theft of a boat from Picnic Point at Mathoura overnight Friday.

It was launched on the Murray River on Friday night and tethered with a rope. When the owner returned Saturday morning the boat was missing.

Police said it appeared the rope had been deliberately cut.

The missing boat is a white 3.8m Quintrex with a 25 horsepower outboard motor and registration number PQ686.

A 44 year-old Deniliquin man is expected to appear in local court next month to face a drink driving charge.

Police allege the man recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.123 after initially returning a positive roadside breath test in Russell St, Deniliquin about 12.40am on Saturday.

The driver was subsequently charged with mid range prescribed content of alcohol.
