Deniliquin Golf Club hosted its annual Spring Classic on the weekend, with David Ring and Graham Gardiner taking out the men’s 36 hole event.
The duo paired up for an aggregate score of 100, finishing eight clear of the grandfather and grandson team of Graeme and Sam Willoughby, who were runners-up on 92.
Ladies’ 36 hole winners were Kath Simpson and Pam Larcombe with 97, three clear of runners-up Sarah Lugsdin and Helen Foster on 94.
For a second year in a row, men’s scratch winners were Brian ‘Billy’ Bourke and Duncan McQuie on 74, while the ladies scratch went to Kerran Leetham and Virginia Lange on 57.
The two-day event attracted close to 90 golfers on both Saturday and Sunday.
Deniliquin Golf Club life member Graeme ‘Wrecker’ Willoughby said it was a successful weekend.
‘‘We had 90 golfers at last year’s event so we weren’t too far off the mark,’’ he said.
‘‘There were 12 golfers away at a tournament so 88 is a pretty good number.
‘‘It was a good weekend and the weather was kind to us this year.
‘‘We’d like to thank Harvey Norman for sponsoring the event again this year; their support of the classic is much appreciated.’’
