More than $60,000 of capital works scheduled for the Deniliquin Waring Gardens have been postponed, pending the development of a masterplan.
Works postponed include replacement of the fence surrounding the children’s playground ($9000), replacement of the pedestrian fence along Napier St ($15,000), reconcreting the barbecue area ($8000) and refurbishment of the rotunda ($30,000).
The deferred projects do not include planned upgrades to the fountain, which council general manager Adam McSwain said would still be allocated $20,000 and delivered this financial year.
‘‘The fountain is an iconic element of Waring Gardens and has not been functioning for some time. It is proposed that this project be continued as a priority,’’ he said.
‘‘The proposed approach to progress the development of Waring Gardens is a management plan and masterplan for the site.
‘‘This strategic approach will ensure a vision is developed that all future works can fit within.
‘‘Following the development of a masterplan and management plan for Waring Gardens, an updated list of capital projects will be brought to council for consideration.
‘‘If any urgent or safety works are required on any of the postponed projects, these works will be undertaken as necessary.’’
