Deniliquin Bowling Club duo Shane Laing and Lindsay Franklin are just one game away from competing at the Bowls Victoria State Pairs event.
They took out the Campaspe Valley Bowls Division final at the Deniliquin RSL Bowls Club greens on Sunday.
In wet and stormy weather, Laing and Franklin took on Phil Thorn and Bill Brooks from Echuca.
The Deni men got out to a five shot lead early in the game and then the weather closed in with thunder, lightning and heavy rain bringing the game to a halt.
Even with the disruptions the Deni duo maintained their concentration and came away with a good five shot win after 18 ends, 18-13.
The pair will play the winners of the Bendigo Division next, and if successful will play in the final 16 of the state.
Deniliquin Bowling Club president Ray Anderson said it was a tremendous achievement.
‘‘If they beat the Bendigo side then it will be the first time in well over a decade that a Deni team has competed in the state finals,’’ he said.
‘‘They will play Bendigo before Christmas but a date still has to be set.
‘‘They’ve had an outstanding run and deserve huge congratulations.’’
