Work on the Blighty Recreation Reserve netball and tennis courts are now complete.
Initial works started earlier this year with the repair and re-surfacing of the courts before Blighty hosted the Picola League grand final.
Edward River Council mayor Norm Brennan said the works, which were funded through Council’s 2016/17 budget, were required to ensure the facility remained compliant with Netball Victoria and Picola League requirements.
‘‘The works included moving the fences at the back of the courts to ensure that there is adequate run off distance between the courts and the fence, and resurfacing the court with asphalt to provide an improved playing surface,’’ Cr Brennan said.
‘‘Council’s staff and contractors installed the asphalt surface a month before the Picola League started this year, with the final acrylic layer and line-marking completed over the past few weeks. The upgrades allowed the court to host the Picola and District Football and Netball League north-west division Grand Final in 2017, and we have been receiving some terrific feedback from the Blighty community.’’
