Deniliquin Amateur Swimming and Life Saving Club will start its Learn to Swim program on Tuesday, January 2.
Registration and grading will be at 5.30pm on the same night where swimmers are graded into ‘colour groups’.
Depending on the colour grade, the swimmer will either attend the 6pm session or 6.30pm session every night for the following nine weeknights.
The program was started locally by Hector McLean in 1922 and free lessons were held in the Edward River with the aim that every Deniliquin child had the opportunity to learn to swim.
Deniliquin Amateur Swimming and Life Saving Club’s aim is to continue to offer the opportunity for local families to access a low cost Learn to Swim program for children.
The program is co-ordinated each year by Deniliquin Amateur Swimming and Life Saving Club members including life member Cheryl McMillan who has been involved in the program for more than 30 years.
