Golfers flock for holiday swing

January 05, 2018

The summer weather has brought golfers out in droves over the past week, enjoying the magnificent local course.

It has been busy with those taking the opportunity for a social game, or playing in one of the club’s regular competitions.

Although the course may be a bit quieter tomorrow with the predicted 42 degrees, it is certain to ramp up again from Sunday and throughout next week.

Anyone who wants a game is encouraged to phone the pro shop on (03) 5881 3333, or call in to organise a tee time. ‘Same day play’ generally applies for social golfers.

In last week’s competitions stableford was played on Saturday with a big field across four grades.

A grade winner scoring 39 points was John Radeski one clear of Brian ‘Billy’ Bourke, in B grade George Willis also had 39 to win by a shot from Geoff Corboy, in C grade Shaun Mills had the day’s best score with 42 points from Warren Bull on 41, and in D grade Connor Thompson followed up his win the previous Wednesday to score on countback from Peter Beckton on 39.

One of the biggest Wednesday fields for a long time, just shy of 100 players, contested a stableford.

A grade was won by Chris Thomson with 38 from Adam Purtill on 37, B grade winner was Wayne Game on 40 from Steve Conrick on 39, C grade went to Gary Rodda with 42 from Phil Hodgkinson on 39, and in D grade Rob Sobolewski had the best score of the day with 43 points to defeat John Irwin, who was runner-up for the second week in a row.

In the clubhouse there has been huge interest in recent weeks in the Joker’s Wild jackpot, which is now at $6,100.

Why not get down to your club tonight, enjoy a meal and perhaps go home a lot richer? Raffle tickets go on sale at 6pm with meat prizes and club vouchers drawn at 7.30pm and the Joker’s Wild at 8pm.
