Jerilderie veteran onballer Chris Marshall will coach the Demons for a second time in the Picola & District Netball League.
The 2017 seniors best and fairest and Jerilderie life member first led the side in 2016 before taking a year away from the top job.
The 30 year-old has played 207 games at senior level for the Dees and will take over from Josh Hillary.
Marshall already has his work cut out for him as Jerilderie has not been able to sign any recruits from other clubs.
Furthermore, the Demons will be without key players Aaron Purcell and James Gilligan who have signed with Deni Rovers, and Marc Shaw who has joined Finley in the Murray League.
Marshall said his aim was improve the younger players and the club’s culture.
‘‘I want to set up a foundation where we can sign big players,’’ he said.
‘‘The team only won four games last year, so it might only be a question of going back to the basics of applying good discipline on the field.
‘‘It want to try and have the netball and football teams closer to create a better culture.
‘‘Nobody wants to see the club where it’s at, so we need to be prepared to get our hands dirty.
‘‘I know it will be tough this season but the club and I are prepared for the challenge.’’
Despite the poor record last season, Marshall will be aided by the inclusion of younger players moving up from last season’s undefeated thirds side.
Club president Dean Knight said Marshall would be a tremendous mentor in his new role.
‘‘We have about eight players coming through from the under 17s, who will really like Chris’s style of coaching.
‘‘Chris is a popular person among the players and supporters.
‘‘As a life member, he has that passion for Jerilderie so we’re confident he’ll do well,’’ Knight said.
Jerilderie’s first game of the season will be on April 7, against Blighty at Monash Park.
‘‘Blighty have made some big signings and we have only been able re-sign local talent so the first game for us will a big test for our young players,’’ Marshall said.
‘‘With the departure of two talented players from the team to the Rovers, the game against Deni will certainly have a bit of bite.’’
Jerilderie pre-season training starts on Tuesday, January 16.
