Strike starts grass fire

January 27, 2018

About 10 hectares of grassland was burned on a property off the Yanco Rd near Conargo due to a lightning strike on Wednesday night.

Starting about 6pm, two units from the Conargo Rural Fire Service and two private units from neighboring property Boonoke responded to the blaze.

While there are no forecasts for further isolated thunderstorms in coming days, RFS Mid Murray Zone district officer Phil Brunsdon has warned a predicted cool change on Monday night could form storm conditions.

People are encouraged to report a fire immediately to Triple Zero during lightning activity.
