The Deniliquin Show will this year be held over three days, for possibly the first time in its 138 year history.
Now less than a month away, the annual event will be held from Friday, March 2 to Sunday, March 4.
Deniliquin Pastoral & Agricultural Society president Graham Doncon said the extra day was added to accommodate the ever growing number of riders competing in horse events.
Sunday will be set aside for the showjumping events, with other entertainment yet to be confirmed.
Mr Doncon said there will be no entry fee on the Sunday.
‘‘It will make things run a bit smoother,’’ he said.
‘‘It’s more convenient for those who want to watch the showjumping events as well as enjoy the rest of the show activities that may be happening.
‘‘We’re unsure if any of the other entertainers will be sticking around for the Sunday, so the showjumping will be the main attraction for that day.’’
The Deni Show will be held at the Memorial Park showgrounds.
Mr Doncon said while some attractions are still being finalised, he expects there will be a few new activities among the traditional favourites.
The event will continue to embrace its rural beginnings, with livestock judging sections for dairy and beef cattle and sheep, as well as wool and poultry pavilions.
Adding to the rural theme, the popular shearing competitions will be back on Friday and Saturday, as well as the yard dog trails on Saturday.
The Showman’s Guild will return with a variety of rides and games, ensuring there will be plenty of screams and laughs coming from sideshow alley.
Complementing this will be a new addition, with a laser tag arena to be provided by the P&A Society.
There will also be the popular animal nursery, a balloon man, face painting, live music and more.
Avid green thumbs will again be pitting their gardening techniques against each other in the giant pumpkin competition, and the pavilion will be full of amazing local art and handiwork for all to peruse.
As always, the spectacular fireworks display will fill the night sky on Saturday.
Show tickets are $15 for a one day adult pass, or $20 for both days. Children aged 5-16 can join in on the fun for $2 a day.
Family passes — for two adults and three children — are $30, and gets you entry for both days.
A fireworks special ticket is also available after 6pm Saturday only, for $5 per person.
Tickets are available from My Shop and Deniliquin Jewellers, or at the gate during show weekend. Pick up a program at various locations around town for details on how to submit an entry in the pavilion.
