A multicultural food festival has been added to the menu of Deniliquin’s Easter Festival.

The Deniliquin Multicultural Group has accepted an invitation to organise its next Celebrating Cultures Multinational Food Festival at Easter.

Celebrating Cultures member and Deniliquin Rotary president Martin Wilmshurst said it would be an exciting addition to an already action-packed schedule over the Easter long weekend.

While planning is still ongoing, Mr Wilmshurst expects guests will have the opportunity to enjoy many of the ethnic cuisines offered at last year’s event.

Expected to be on the menu at Easter will be food from Italy, South America, India, Japan, Aboriginal Indigenous dishes, Greek, as well as the very popular Pacific Island hungi pig.

Other popular dishes at last year’s event included Peruvian, Thai, British Philippino and Singaporean.

Mr Wilmshurst said the ultimate aim of the Multinational Food Festival — which he said is coordinated in conjunction with Intereach — is to ‘‘celebrate diversity’’ and ‘‘bridge together as a community’’.

He said it was the perfect theme to be celebrated at Easter.

The 2018 Multinational Food Festival, the third Celebrating Cultures event, will be held on Easter Saturday, March 31 in Waring Gardens.

It will complement Deni Fest’s popular ArtOut artisan and vintage market, also held in the Waring Gardens near Cressy St from 9am to 2pm the same day.

This year’s market is being organised by the Edward River Sustainability Group, with support from Edward River Council.

Any proceeds from the market will be donated to the Sustainability Group, to support projects that promote positive living in Deniliquin and surrounding areas.

Also nearby will be the Rotary Easter Art Show in the Cressy St Multi Arts Centre, which runs from Good Friday to Easter Monday.

The big weekend of arts and culture will also include a showcase of local talent on Thursday, March 29, also in the Waring Gardens.

The lunchtime concert will be free to attend.

Anyone wishing to host a stall as part of the Multinational Food Festival is asked to contact Mr Wilmshurst on 0417603385, or Wendy Johnston at Intereach on 58905258.
