A Finley Rd family received an almighty shock on Monday night, when they discovered a brown snake in their home.
Deniliquin NSW Fire and Rescue and police were called to the home at 8.50pm to capture the reptile, which was more than a metre long.
The residents were alerted by their dog and trapped the snake inside a bedroom, sealing off gaps so it couldn’t escape.
Brigade Captain Martin Smith said luckily one of the members is a qualified reptile handler and captured the snake without incident.
It was later released into a ‘‘more appropriate area’’.
