Deniliquin High School’s 2018 Davidson Shield campaign got off to a positive start with a round one victory against Corowa High School at Memorial Park on Monday.

The Deni side bowled first, dismissing Corowa for 78 runs.

Dylan Mills led the way with the ball, taking 3/20 while Dylan Rotherham (2/14) and Harry Hillier (2/11) were other multiple wicket takers.

Jake McManus and Tom Bradley also struck with the ball with one wicket each, with Will Shaw having a tremendous day in the field with four catches.

Deniliquin’s run chase got off to a shaky start losing Shaw for five, but a 29 run partnership between Harry Hiller (15) and Jake McManus (20) steadied the ship.

Deni looked to be cruising with the score at 2-49 but a middle order collapse got Corowa back in the game with the hosts losing four wickets for 12 runs.

A handy little partnership at the end by Charlie Hillier (nine) and Dylan Mills (12) finished the game with four overs to spare with Mills finishing off the match with a huge six to win the game. Deni finished with a score of 6/83.

Deni High will take on Finley next month.
