The Golf Croquet Singles Championships were played last Sunday morning in the 37 degree heat.
Darren McLoughlin was the only player to win all his games, winning the 0-5 section with 28 hoops.
John James was the runner-up with 25.
In the 6-8 section John Tainsh was the winner with 26 hoops and Marg Telford was runner-up with 20.
Peter Whittakers was the winner of the 9-12 section with 24 hoops and Meyerene Geldenhuys was runner-up with 20.
There were 10 successful jump shots for the day. Darren McLoughlin had four, John James three, John Tainsh two and Marg Telford one.
Marg Telford’s jump shot was declared shot of the day. Her opponent’s yellow ball was almost in the hoop with Marg’s ball bouncing on top of it and going through the hoop with the yellow ball not moving.
John James attended the two-day GVCA Golf Croquet Open Tournament at Rich River on Wednesday and Thursday last week, looking to win back to back titles in Division One.
There were 36 players competing with James finishing as runner-up in his division winning six of his seven games with a net of 11 hoops.
James was runner-up to Victor Harbour’s Ron McBride, who also won six games with a net of 17 hoops.
Fourteen players lined up for croquet on Wednesday morning.
There were three three-game winners. John Tainsh won the day with 25 hoops while Allan Tonta and Jill Tainsh each had 24.
Four players had good scores despite losing one game. Colin Campbell had 22 and Dee Crotty and Heather Douglas both scored 20 hoops.
There were three successful jump shots on the day with Jill Tainsh, Allan Tonta and John Tainsh all scoring one each.
