Richards rides treble

March 02, 2018

A winning treble for apprentice Josh Richards was a feature of the Balranald meeting on Saturday.

He won the first two races on the six-event program and rounded off the day with victory in the last.

His winners My Zarmidala, Capnicconi and Doogan’s Destiny were all well supported.

The Phil Sweeney trained My Zarmidala ($3.60) won the Maiden Plate (1000m) by 2 lengths from Redente’s Dream with $3 favourite Windcharm third.

Only a length separated the first five across the line in the Dick Gorman Memorial Benchmark 55 (1000m).

Capnicconi ($2.70 fav) trained by Peter Clancy edged out Junior Mac and Gentleman Charlie.

Doogan’s Destiny ($3.20 fav) trained by Steven Cunningham won the Benchmark 55 (1750m) by a half length from Swanhilde with Xian’s Pride a distant third.

Swan Hill trained Reine De Tout ($3.60 fav) won the Balranald Cup (1400m) which attracted 11 starters.

Reine De Tout defeated Tableaux by three quarters of a length with 2 lengths to third placed Corporate Takeover.

Stacey Metcalfe rode the winner for Nathan Hobson,

Hobson also won the Class 1 (1200m) with Blacklisted ($3.50) ridden by Chris Nicoll.

Blacklisted had a four-length margin over It’s Chief with C’mon Honey third.

The $2.40 favourite Equitation outclassed the opposition in the Maiden Handicap (1400m).

Equitation trained by Danny Laws and ridden by Lee Smith scored by six lengths from Causing Chaos and Lucky Jimmy.

Two outstanding fillies dominated the Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday and are destined for another enthralling clash in the Golden Slipper.

Sunlight took the honours by a neck with nearly seven lengths to third.

At this stage Sunlight and Estijaab are entitled to be ranked above Performer and Santos.

Cliff’s Edge should be near his top after two lead-up runs and looks a solid each-way prospect in the Australian Guineas at Flemington tomorrow.

He resumed with a Caulfield 1200m win defeating Overshare then finished second to Grunt at Flemington over 1400m conceding that colt 3 kg.

Follow - Single Gaze: Consistent mare deserves a win after seconds in Caulfield Cup, Orr Stakes and Saturday’s Peter Young Stakes.

Coming winners: Portman resumed with Flemington fourth and is twice a winner second-up.

Pierata was second to Follow horse Kementari at Rosehill at first run for six weeks.

Shumookh was having only her third start when second in Randwick Group 2.
