A small group of dedicated volunteers did their bit to help clean up around Deniliquin on Sunday, as part of annual Clean Up Australia Day.

The volunteers met at the Peppin Heritage Centre at 10am before being assigned a clean up location, to rid the town of litter.

Volunteering to help were six employees from McDonald’s Deniliquin, who focussed their efforts on McLean Beach.

Other volunteers cleaned at Edward River Oval, Memorial Park, Twin Rivers, the Beach to Beach walk and on railway land bordered by Hardinge and Napier Sts.

Anyone who registered at the Peppin Heritage Centre was given a free pair of gloves and rubbish bag.

All bags were then picked up by Edward River Council staff.

Council executive assistant Belinda Perrett thanked everyone who gave up their Sunday to be involved.

‘‘The day offers a sense of community,’’ she said.

‘‘We all live here so it is good that we are taking care and keeping Deniliquin clean.
