Deniliquin started off its Intertown Squash season strongly, defeating Cohuna nine games to six at the Deniliquin RSL squash courts recently.
The format of the game was slightly different to that commonly played at the Deni courts, with players required to play one 12 minute game and then a second game after a one minute break.
In the singles Peter Thompson, Dave Leslie, and Phil Oakes were two-match winners.
This was followed by a doubles game, with Deni succeeding in two of the three games.
Miles Rogers and Phil Oakes were able to get over the Cohuna competition as did Father-son duo of Peter and Bayden Thompson.
Dave Leslie and Adrian Mulham were unfortunately not able to get the points in a well fought game.
Deniliquin squash player Matt Tubb, who missed the clash, said it was a fantastic day for the club.
‘‘It was great to have three junior players Ethan Leslie and Adrian Mulham and Bayden Thompson play on the day,’’ he said.
‘‘Despite not having a win in the singles the boys gave it their all in well fought games against older players.
‘‘Our next game is at Hay on the last weekend of March.’’
Each Monday night local players are encouraged to head to the Deniliquin RSL squash courts for a social hit.
Anyone interested in having a hit in the Intertown Squash competition can contact Matt Tubb on 0407 432 710 or head down to the RSL squash courts on a Monday.
