Battlers win one-set thriller

April 25, 2018

Taskers Battlers/Elders won in an absolute thriller over Peppin Planners/TA Maher in round two of Deniliquin Lawn Tennis Club’s night competition last Wednesday night.

Taskers claimed a nine sets 53 games to eight sets 53 games victory after winning the final two mixed doubles games.

It was a close encounter between the men’s and ladies, with Peppin winning four sets to three in the men’s and Taskers three sets to two in the ladies.

After claiming two of the first three mixed sets Peppin looked to be in the box seat, before Taskers battled back to pinch the victory.

Taskers’ Rich Larcombe was the only three-set winner from the encounter.

It was a one-sided affair in the other clash, with Legal Eagles dominating Agspares, 12 sets 52 games to five sets 41 games.

Legal Eagles’ men were too good for Agspares, winning six out of the seven sets, with the Eagles’ ladies also standing tall winning three sets to two.

With the win already locked away heading into the mixed sets, the Eagles continued their winning ways picking up three sets to two to close out the night.

Three-set winners for Legal Eagles were Michael Everitt, Eimear Gogarty, Harley Moore, John James and Ben Chartres.

Round three will be played tonight, with Mitre 10 facing Agspares and Taskers Battlers/Elders taking on Legal Eagles. Peppin Planners/TA Maher has the bye.
