Car dumped, set alight

A firefighter works to cool the car on Monday morning.

Police are investigating an incident where an abandoned car was found alight about 15km south of Deniliquin yesterday morning.

Deniliquin NSW Fire and Rescue was called to extinguish the flames shortly before 7am, near the intersection of Leetham and Southdown Rds on crown land adjacent the railway line.

A passing motorist alerted authorities to the fire.

When firefighters arrived about 7.10am, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters quickly doused the flames and then worked to cool the vehicle which was totally destroyed.

No-one was inside the vehicle which is believed to have been stolen, abandoned and set alight.

Police are appealing for information regarding the incident.

The four NSW Fire & Rescue firefighters left the scene about 8.30am once the area was deemed safe.

Police were also at the scene.
