At 11am on Wednesday, on the dot, eight young book lovers visited the Deniliquin Library for the annual National Simultaneous Storytime.

In its 18th year, the fun event aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that explores age appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas.

The same Australian book is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops, shopping centres and many other places around the country.

This year’s chosen book was ‘Hickory Dickory Dash’ by Tony Wilson, read in Deniliquin on Wednesday by library team member Peter Papandriopoulos.

‘‘It’s just a fun thing to do,’’ Mr Papandriopoulos said.

‘‘It’s nice knowing that parents, teachers and children are reading the same book at the same time all over the country.’’

Following the reading, the young book lovers enjoyed craft activities.
