Agspares claim inaugural tennis title

Agspares are the inaugural Deniliquin Lawn Tennis Club’s night competition champions, finishing their season with a tight nine set (50 games) to eight set (42) win over Mitre 10 last Wednesday.

Agspares finished 14 points clear of second placed Legal Eagles in a dominant season.

In the final round it was Mitre 10 that had the advantage early, claiming the men’s sets four to three and the ladies’ sets three to two.

But Agspares turned their fortune around in the mixed sets, storming home with four sets to one to claim the win.

Each side had one three set winner with Andrew Ritchie (Agspares) and Jane Frazer (Mitre 10) both unbeaten on the night.

In the other contest, Legal Eagles secured a second place finish with a 12 set (53 games) to five set (39) win over Taskers Battlers/Elders.

Legal Eagles shot out to an early lead, winning the men’s sets five to two and the ladies’ sets four to one.

With the overall result secured Legal Eagles continued to stand tall, winning the mixed sets three to two.

Three set winners were Eimear Gogarty and Simone Dudley, both from Legal Eagles.
