Landholders have been asked to be more careful while undertaking permit burns.
Rural Fire Service Mid Murray Zone district coordinator Doug Adamson said it follows two permit burns near Jerilderie and Wakool escaping containment last week.
Mr Adamson said just because the weather has cooled you still need to take the proper precautions, the same as if it was peak fire season.
‘‘People are being too careless,’’ he said.
‘‘Even though it’s not bush fire danger season you can still be fined if these burns are not carried out safely.
‘‘While it’s cool and damp in the mornings and afternoons, and it seems hard to light a fire let alone have one escape its restricted area, it can still happen.
‘‘It’s ridiculous at this time of year to have fires getting away, so people just need to take care.’’
