A $2000 donation from the club has been arranged through the Deniliquin Menshed.
Deniliquin president John Tonkin said it has been used to purchase ten $200 Deniliquin Central IGA shopping vouchers to give to farmers.
“The Thirroul club's vice president David Montgomery explained they had raised the money from a sausage sizzle at Bunnings, and he was adamant we used the money to purchase food vouchers at a local store for farmers who might need some assistance,” Mr Tonkin said.
“We all say our city neighbours don't fully understand or care about what is happening, but this is proof people are listening.
“The Thirroul MenShed has 60 odd members who, much like us, are from the older generation. They have taken note of what is happening and generously decided to support our local farmers.
“This really showcases that the Menshed organisations of Australia care about our communities, especially those who are doing it tough.”
Mr Tonkin said the IGA shopping vouchers would be distributed at dairy farmer meetings and events.
“I have been working with Malcolm Holm to identify a group of farmers that could benefit from this donation, and he has come back with about 36 dairy farmers who live in Southern Riverina region,” Mr Tonkin said.
“He will conduct a lucky door prize at each meeting, function or whenever they get together, with a voucher given away each time until they have all been distributed.
“In this way, we don't have to choose between the 36 deserving farmers.”
“We are grateful for Thirroul Menshed's contribution and would like to thank them for supporting our community.
“I also encourage anyone else to see what you can do to support those doing it tough, even if it is just shopping local because it will always make a difference.”
