Quarrell Civil Construction is working two shifts to ensure works are completed in the shortest possible time frame, minimising impacts to businesses and residents.
Access to all businesses will be maintained during business hours, with small sections of the footpath closed for works after hours.
Work is being undertaken between 6am and midnight Monday to Thursday, and 6am to 6pm Fridays.
Temporary fencing and traffic controls are in place.
Footpath works between the Napier St corner and just before the pedestrian crossing were completed last week, and work has continued toward Edwardes St this week.
The existing brick pavers, concrete footpath and kerb are all being removed, and workers are trenching and installing underground power cables up to the shop fronts.
New mains water services are also being placed, before a rock base for the new asphalt and paver footpath is laid.
Mains water connections will be the focus for workers this Sunday.
Edward River Council has advised that, as a result, mains water along Cressy St — between Napier and Edwardes Sts — will need to be temporarily shut down this Sunday between 8am and 5pm.
The work is being done on a Sunday to minimise the impacts of the planned shutdown to businesses and residents.
