Pussy Riot man in Berlin for treatment

By AAP Newswire

Petr Verzilov, a prominent member of Russian punk band Pussy Riot, reportedly has arrived in Berlin to continue medical treatment after a suspected poisoning.

He arrived on a special air ambulance flight at Berlin Schoenefeld Airport late Saturday, the German tabloid Bild reported.

Verzilov's partner, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, also posted a video on Twitter which appeared to show their arrival.

"I assume he was poisoned deliberately and that it was intended to intimidate him or even an attempt to kill him," Tolokonnikova told Bild.

Verzilov's mother Elena also accompanied him on the flight.

Government critic Verzilov was taken to hospital in Moscow on Tuesday with impairments to his sight, speech and movement.

It is believed that he ingested a powerful medication that suppresses the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.

According to media reports, doctors found evidence of strong psychotropic drugs in his blood tests.

Verzilov was one of four Pussy Riot protesters who, dressed in police-style outfits, stormed the pitch during the World Cup final between France and Croatia.

The protesters served 15 days in jail for the incident, which the band said they conducted to demand greater political choice in Russia and the release of political prisoners.

He was moved to the German capital after a friend of his father's offered him treatment outside of Russia, fellow band member Veronika Nikulshina told the Meduza internet newspaper.
