The 15 year-old slalom skiier has gained a sponsor, joining the KD Skis Junior Team after his application for the sponsorship was accepted two weeks ago.
The sponsorship came as the Deniliquin Boat Club member continues to climb the world rankings, having moved from 94th spot to the 81st in the International Waterski & Wakeboard Federation Under 17s rankings.
Lugaidh has continued to grow on the water, improving on his personal best of 0.5 of a buoy at 58km/h on a 13m line at last year's National Championships.
He now has a PB of 3.5 buoys at 58km/h on a 13m line, something he looks to continue to improve on.
“Receiving this sponsorship is a dream come true,” Lugaidh said.
“With my sponsorship I received a $2,500 KD ski along with other items.
“I love the new ski, it is faster across the wake and sharper on turns.
“Hopefully I can be holding the ski up on the podium at nationals.”
Lugaidh will compete at the NSW state titles event in Albury on April 4 before heading to the National Titles at Mulwala, held from April 9 to 13.
While not preparing for his competition skiing, Lugaidh has vowed to continue to give back to the club that has given him these opportunities.
He continues to help the Deni Boat Club as a ski school coordinator, assisting with the teaching of up to 50 children each Friday night.
“This opportunity (to get a sponsor) would never have happened with the Deni Boat CLub and its amazing ski school,” he said.
“I'd like to thank the many volunteers, the committee and give special thanks to ski school coaches Judy Jordan, Marg Tait and Troy Lea.”
