About 30 of those families enrolled in the Family Service Program. The initiative was a beacon of hope for those who had faced financial stress, a staggering 83.6 per cent of families associated with KCLC in 2023.
Alarming statistics revealed that 18 families grappled with the risk of homelessness, underlining the gravity of the challenges faced by the community.
The success of the Christmas drive was a testament to the unwavering support from Kyabram businesses.
Sheridan Partners, Elders Insurance, Dawes and Vary, Albion Fruit Shed, Fitzgerald’s Farm Fresh Meats, Better Electrical, Kyabram Newsagency, Woolworths Kyabram, and Bendigo Bank rallied together, contributing to the substantial impact of the initiative.
KCLC expressed gratitude for the generosity of the community and these businesses, acknowledging that the success of such endeavours is a collective achievement.
Adding to the festive spirit, KCLC hosted a community Christmas meal on December 21, bringing together community members for a joyous occasion.
The event was a resounding success, with thanks extended to all who attended, shared their time, and contributed to making the day memorable for children and adults.
However, 2023 also marked a decline in material aid donations from individuals, echoing the financial strain experienced by those directly served by KCLC and within the broader community.
The need for emergency material aid and financial support has become more evident than ever, emphasising the critical role KCLC plays in distributing five to 15 food hampers daily to community members.
As KCLC reflects on the past year's challenges, the organisation looks forward to a promising future in 2024. Plans are under way to expand support and programs, collaborating closely with community facilities, initiatives, and programs.
The extensive list includes family services, early learning and neighbourhood house programs, the community garden and traffic school, and various social and support groups, workshops, and activities for adults and children.
The commitment extends to the women's and men's shed, Parkinson’s group, dementia support group, dementia alliance, carers activities, and playgroups.
KCLC remains dedicated to providing outreach services, including employment support, homelessness assistance and counselling.
With a genuine passion for bringing people together, KCLC eagerly anticipates actively listening to and collaborating with the community in 2024, ensuring that no-one is left behind in their journey towards a brighter future.
