Submissions are being accepted until December 13, 2020 for the Upper House Inquiry into regional health outcomes and services in rural, regional and remote NSW.
Deniliquin Health Action Group wants local people to express their views and experiences of health services to the inquiry.
DHAG chair Dr Marion Magee said it is important the inquiry gets a broad range of individual submissions so it has a clear understanding of health services and needs in our region.
She said unfortunately submissions are only being accepted online, and understands this can be difficult for some people. However, DHAG members have agreed to assist anyone who needs help with their submission.
DHAG member Shirlee Burge, a long-time health advocate for the region, will lead efforts to provide any assistance that is required.
She agreed with Dr Magee that individual submissions are important as they provide the inquiry with a personal perspective and are therefore more powerful and credible.
The inquiry will be chaired by Labor MLC Greg Donnelly, who said ‘‘we believe it is imperative that people who live in rural, regional and remote areas have comparable health outcomes and access to health and hospital services to those who live in metropolitan areas’’.
He said the inquiry will ‘‘examine and analyse New South Wales Health’s planning systems and projections in determining the provision of health services, as well as capital and recurrent health expenditure in these areas. We will look into staffing challenges, the provision of ambulance services and the access and availability of oncology treatments and palliative care’’.
Further information is available on the inquiry’s website. For help with submissions phone Shirlee Burge on 0428 821 121.
