This week is National Volunteer Week, a time to acknowledge the contributions of volunteers across Australia.
This year’s theme ‘Making a World of Difference’, is certainly pertinent in local sport with countless clubs requiring hardworking volunteers to keep them running smoothly.
Christine Osborne, one of two volunteer secretaries for Cobram Roars, said it was important to recognise all the people who helped run a sporting club with little reward.
‘‘Cobram Roar is fortunate to have many volunteers who make a world of difference to our club,’’ she said.
‘‘We have an active and enthusiastic committee who commit many hours throughout the year to ensure we are able to function and play soccer.
‘‘They are involved in meetings, planning, registration, bookkeeping, sponsorship, roster compilation, shopping and the list goes on.’’
Osborne acknowledged the coaches and team managers who looked after each team as well as the people who assisted on match days.
‘‘Sport and recreation is such an important part of our community and Cobram Roar want to send a thank you everyone who contributes to our club,’’ she said.
