Council unanimously adopted a Terms of Reference for what will be a seven-member Federation Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee.
The committee was established at council’s December meeting and followed a talk by local resident, well known former mayor Keith Barber on behalf of the Corowa District Historical Society, who sought to have silo art at Corowa Chocolate and Whiskey Factory.
Five community members, a councillor nominated as chair and a council staff member for secretarial support will comprise the committee.
Cr Gail Law will be the councillor member who will chair meetings.
Nominations for membership to the committee will be called for via a variety of media, including the Federation Snippets in the Yarrawonga Chronicle. Candidates seeking appointment must lodge a written and signed application form.
Residents will also be invited to nominate as a Federation Arts and Cultural Working Group member. This group is a sub committee of the Federation Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee and is open to members who want to focus solely on particular arts and cultural projects, events of initiatives.
Examples include volunteer at exhibitions or events, assisting with street art projects and compiling historical information.
Cr Bronwyn Thomas encouraged council to have as widespread as possible representation throughout the Federation council area on the arts and cultural committee, because of interests in the fields from Mulwala to Urana.
