IT’S Lake Murphy’s turn to put on a show as part of the North Central Catchment Management Authority’s (CMA) annual Breakfast with the Birds event.

The wetland near Kerang is buzzing after the delivery of water for the environment, with thousands of waterbirds, including the endangered Australasian bittern, calling the lake home.
“The lakes in the Kerang area are some of the most species-rich in southern Australia, and we want to show them off,” North Central CMA project manager Amy Russell said.
“Both locals and visitors appreciate the importance of these wetlands, and Breakfast with the Birds is a great opportunity to see why.”
This year, those attending will also have the chance to listen to Ecologist Matt Herring, a bittern and waterbird expert.
“Matt is one of Australia’s leading bittern experts and is an awesome presenter. Having him along is a real coup,” Ms Russell said.
Breakfast with the Birds will be held on Sunday February 3 – to celebrate World Wetlands Day – from 5am to 10am.
Due to limited car parking space, please enter the wetland from Bott Rd and follow the signs to the carpark. Participants will be transferred by bus from the car park to the site.
“Breakfast with the Birds is free, but registration is essential as places are limited,” Ms Russell said.

“Bring a hat, water bottle, reusable coffee cup, chair if required, binoculars and a camera and we’ll supply the food.
“It’s also important to dress for the weather including long pants and enclosed footwear. In the event of extreme weather, we may have to cancel, but we’ll let you know.”
Breakfast with the Birds is supported by the North Central CMA through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
