Five-year-old Amelia, Roger’s daughter, was born after a traumatic delivery and has a version of cerebral palsy affecting all of her limbs.
Although Amelia, Roger and Natalie now live in the UK — where Amelia’s mum Natalie was born — family ties still make Kyabram home.
Amelia is unable to feed herself, stand independently or sit up without support, but her Aunty Liz Sefton says she is still one determined little girl.
“She is also non-verbal but has a lot to say,” Liz said.
Liz is calling on the community to help support the family. The fundraising will help the couple buy a Thermomix for Amelia, as she can only eat pureed food.
She said the new machine would bring huge relief.
‘‘Every little bit helps,’’ Liz said.
‘‘It seems they constantly have to battle to get funding and with Amelia’s health nothing is cheap so this will mean a huge deal to them.’’
In true ‘once a local, always a local’ style, Roger’s old school friends Karyn Grealy and Ainslie Boylan have also come on board to help with the fundraising.
The event is on Wednesday at the Echuca Paramount Cinema. The movie, What Men Want, will start at 7.30pm and tickets are available from trybooking.com/BAGYH or by phoning Liz Sefton on 0438532261.
