Brothers ready to rock

By Abbey Flanagan

Tickets are being snapped up fast for the return of world-renowned classical guitar duo, Leonard and Slava Grigoryan, as they perform their last concert of their ‘An evening with the Grigoryan Brothers’ series.

The concert’s original date in July was unexpectedly cancelled due to the birth of Slava’s third child; a boy, Sebastian Leonard.

But if that wasn’t exciting enough, Slava has just won the highly-coveted ARIA Award for Best Classical Album for the second year running. It’s only the fifth time in ARIA Award history that an artist has won consecutive awards in this category.

Considered among Australia’s finest guitar duos, Slava and Leonard will be performing not only the standard classical guitar repertoire but their own new arrangements, compositions and commissions, taking the guitar into the realms of folk, jazz and contemporary.

South West Music’s director Damien Johnson is passionate about offering world class performances to as many of our local communities as possible.

‘‘Leonard and Slava are two of the finest exponents of guitar you would hope to see. I am very excited to be able to present these concerts.’’

As with all of South West Music live events, people under 18 attend free, making this a wonderful family activity and an opportunity for parents to take their kids to a quality musical performance.

The concert will take place at the Peppin Gallery from 7.00pm on Thursday, November 8.

Encouraging attendees to a real night out, The Crossing Cafe is offering a pre-performance dinner from 5.30pm.

Dinner bookings should be made early and direct with The Crossing to ensure you don’t miss out.

Tickets for the event are now on sale. Book them direct with South West Music on 5881 4736 or online at www.swmusic.org.au/live-music.
