Find energy to attend free session, reduce your bill

By Vanessa Wiltshire

WHAT was the charge on your most recent energy bill?

$200? $400? More? Winter is the time when household energy costs can be at their highest. And it’s this time of year that families can feel the pinch.

If you’ve been thinking about joining the solar and battery revolution, now may be a good time.

Advance Heathcote vice president Sherrie Coote said at this time of year, household energy bills doubled or even tripled.

‘‘To help, we are running two free community information sessions on solar and battery powered energy,’’ she said.

‘‘The sessions have been funded through a grant from Heathcote and District Community Bank and will help residents to discover ways their monthly energy bill can be reduced.’’

In partnership with the Bendigo Sustainability Group Community Power Hub Project (BSGCPHP) Advance Heathcote is running two free community information sessions at Barrack Reserve (June 25 and July 3).

The first session covers rooftop solar energy and battery storage. The second is a free, 15 minute bill analysis, to find out if your electricity bill can be reduced, or eligible for a discount.

‘‘Two experts from Bendigo Sustainability Group will be present to speak about the latest session and costs and benefits,’’ Sherrie said.

‘‘This includes current and potential changes to feed-in-tariffs. Consideration of size and orientation of your solar system will be discussed at this free information system.

‘‘They will also provide information about solar homes program rebates that are currently available through Solar Victoria and they will tell you how to apply.

‘‘I encourage anyone who is concerned about rising energy costs to attend. Bring along your most recent energy bill and find out more.’’

Information will also be provided about community owned renewable energy opportunities for Bendigo and Central Victoria.
