Rifle found in canal

By Deniliquin Pastoral Times

A rusted 22 bolt action rifle has been recovered by police from the Mulwala Canal.

The sighting of the gun was reported to police at the weekend, after it was seen in the canal near Barham Rd.

Fuel, tank stolen

Police are investigating the theft of fuel, a fuel tank and a fridge from a yard in Hardinge St, Deniliquin.

The fuel was stolen from a houseboat stored at the property between midday on June 4 and 10am on July 2, and was reported this week.

Multiple charges

A 40 year-old Deniliquin man has been charged with multiple offences following an alleged domestic violence incident in Deniliquin on Saturday.

He is reported to have breached an apprehended violence order soon after it was issued by police.

During the arrest for breaching the AVO, police allege to have found an ‘ice’ pipe and a small bag of cannabis in the man’s backpack.

He was subsequently charged with possession of a prohibited drug and possession of drug implements.

Police said the man was initially arrested at 10.50pm on Saturday after allegedly assaulting a woman at a Deniliquin home on July 5.

He was issued with the AVO and released about 1.30am Sunday, after which he allegedly breached the conditions by going to the home where the woman was staying.

The man had left the home before police arrived, and he was arrested about 11.20am Sunday at a different address.

It was during this arrest that police allegedly found the ‘ice’ pipe when collecting his bag for him, with the cannabis allegedly found in a more thorough search.
