Registrations for the highly anticipated 2019 Deniliquin RSL Fishing Classic started rolling after the Christmas and New Year period ended, and were yesterday approaching the 100 mark.
Fishing Classic co-event coordinator Fiona Petersen said more registrations are expected to come in at a ‘‘blistering pace’’ from next week.
‘‘We know with the Fishing Classic that most registrations are in the last two or three weeks,’’ Mrs Petersen said.
‘‘We are anticipating at least 2000 will register and maybe up to 2500.’’
Early bird registrations are accepted until 6pm on February 11.
Anyone who takes advantage of this period will go in the running for a special boat draw — a Clark 395 Predator with 30 hp Suzuki Motor and Dunbier Trailer valued at almost $10,000.
There are four other boat packages to be won throughout the event — which will be held from Friday, February 15 to Sunday, February 16.
On top of the $80,000 prize pool is a $20,000 prize for anyone who lands the specially tagged 2019 Murray cod.
The weekend’s fun begins with the popular Prize-A-Rama at the Deniliquin RSL Club on the Friday night, where there is a prize pool valued at $10,000 up for grabs as well as an Clark 427 Estuary Pursuit with 40 hp Suzuki Motor and Dunbier Trailer valued at more than $15,000.
The fun moves to the Edward River and Classic HQ on Edward River Oval for Saturday and Sunday, including the family fun night of live music and other activities on Saturday night.
It will return to HQ by noon Sunday for the presentation and the final boat prize draws.
