Anzac Day marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during World War I.
It has become a day on which we remember all Australians who served and died in war and on operational service past and present.
A range of Anzac Day commemorations will be held at various times and locations across the local area.
Details, by town, are as follows.
Deniliquin: Community members are encouraged to start their day with the Dawn Service at 6am at the Deniliquin Cenotaph on the corner of Cressy and Napier Sts. A march will begin at 5.45am to the Cenotaph. This will be followed by the traditional Gunfire Breakfast at the Deniliquin RSL Club (cost $5).
A commemorative service at the Deniliquin War Cemetery will begin at 8am, with a bus leaving the RSL at 7.45am.
The mid-morning ceremony parade will step off at the Deniliquin Town Hall at 10.45am, to reach the Deniliquin Cenotaph by 11am.
Following this service, the Deniliquin Genealogy Society will be conducting a cemetery walk at the Deniliquin Cemetery.
The ‘Courage and Determination’ tapestry exhibition is available for public viewing in the Mountbatten Room at the Deniliquin RSL Club today, tomorrow and Thursday.
Wanganella: There will be a 9am commemorative service at the Wanganella Hall, off the Cobb Highway.
Mathoura: The dawn service will start at 6am at the Mathoura Cenotaph in the Soldiers Memorial Gardens, followed by breakfast at the Soldiers Memorial Hall. The commemorative service will be at the Council Hall in Conargo St at 11am followed by a march to the Soldiers Memorial Gardens for a further short wreath laying ceremony. Following this is a lunch at the Mathoura Bowling Club.
Moama: The dawn service is at 5.55am at the Moama Cenotaph, Kerrabee Soundshell and will be immediately followed by a Gunfire Breakfast at Moama RSL. The commemorative service will also be at Moama Cenotaph at 9am.
Pyangle and Tooleybuc: The commemorative service will be at Pyangle Community Hall at 9.30am.
Wakool: The commemorative service will be at Wakool Memorial Hall at 3pm and followed by a march to the Wakool Cenotaph for a short wreath laying ceremony.
Barham: The dawn service will be at Barham Cenotaph on the corner of Murray and Noorong Sts at 6am, followed by a breakfast at cluBarham. The commemorative service and march will start in Koondrook at 10.45am.
Moulamein: The dawn service will be at The Triangle Park on Brougham St at 6.15am. The march will start at 10.45am followed by the commemorative service at The Triangle Park.
