The group, who are regular visitors to Deni, will again plunge into the Edward River to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease.
The idea came about during the group’s annual ‘Krunk Tour’ — where they visit every pub in Deni on the Saturday of the Queen’s Birthday long weekend — in 2017.
Big Freeze organiser Kylee Healy said it was a recent diagnosis of her friend Bob Tottle and ‘‘a few drinks’’ that saw the idea come to life two years ago.
‘‘The first year we did it spur of the moment and only had about 12 hours to raise money, but last year with more awareness we managed to double the amount of jumpers and triple the amount of funds raised.
‘‘We’re hoping that with even more notice this year we can continue to have the event grow.
‘‘I know I’m a bit more prepared again this year with plenty of towels and warm clothes, but knowing exactly how it feels when you hit that cold river during winter is a bit daunting.
‘‘We’re looking for more jumpers from the local area this year and for the Deniliquin community to help with fundraising.’’
The group will have donation tins with them as they embark on their ‘Krunk Tour’, with donation tins also being left at the McLean Beach Holiday Park, RSL Bowling Club and the Exchange Hotel.
Mrs Healy added that people are welcome to join in on the fun of the pub crawl on Saturday, June 8.
‘‘We’ll all be wearing Freeze MND beanies so we shouldn’t be too hard to find,’’ she said.
‘‘We encourage anyone that would like to join us on the Krunk Tour to buy a Freeze MND beanie.
‘‘We haven’t fully finalised our tour and the order we will be visiting each pub, but we expect to finish at the Exchange, who contacted us asking how they could help with raising funds. They will be having a band performing that night.
‘‘We’ll also drop in to the Deni RSL Bowling Club again as they have been wonderful supporters of the Big Freeze since our first year.
‘‘We’re hopeful other Deniliquin businesses and sporting clubs may get involved.’’
