This invaluable service provides transport for older people, transporting disadvantaged and Department of Veterans Affairs support recipients, for shopping, appointments and social outings.
More than 100 people utilise the service each week in the Deniliquin area, and it is completely reliant on volunteer drivers.
‘‘We have wonderful volunteer drivers but we need more,’’ Intereach Community Transport coordinator Emma Edwards said.
‘‘We’ve had a drop in volunteer numbers in the past 12 months or so for various reasons, so we need to try and replace them to ensure we can keep up with the demand of this popular service.
‘‘We find that our volunteers get a lot of self-satisfaction from helping people get to where they need to be, and often these trips are for important out-of-town medical appointments.
‘‘There are also trips around town and the drivers receive a meal allowance depending on the distance of the trip.’’
Intereach Community Transport operates Monday to Friday.
Volunteer hours can be flexible to suit your lifestyle. A vehicle is provided and meal expenses will be reimbursed.
