Edward River Council wants to sell the land on which the sheds are presently located.
Lions Club immediate past president Daryl Whateley said council was taking responsibility to either relocate or build new sheds for the clubs.
‘‘Lions and Rotary have met with a council representative and agreed on our options,’’ Mr Whateley said.
‘‘We are not going to lose our sheds and things are tracking along as we further discuss where the new sheds will be located.’’
Council has sought expressions of interest to purchase and develop the former works depot site with a focus on prioritising business expansion and job creation.
Mayor Norm Brennan said council had consolidated its roads, water and sewer workshop and parks and gardens staff at the former Conargo Shire works depot in Wanderer Street, and so the old Hardinge St depot site has become surplus to requirements.
‘‘Given the site’s proximity to the Cobb Highway and exposure to passing traffic, this presents us with an excellent opportunity to stimulate local economic development by inviting expressions of interest for its purchase and development,’’ Cr Brennan said.
‘‘The site is zoned industrial and could be used for a wide range of industrial uses, and ideally, council will be looking to sell the land to a proponent who is able to demonstrate the ability to support business expansion and job creation.’’
