THE Rochy Clean Up team was on a mission to beautify the environment on March 3 despite the oppressive heat, collecting 10 bags of green waste.
Volunteers were at the Rochester Boat Ramp and worked from 9am until 10.30am clearing storm water drains of green waste and recyclable debris.
Volunteer Grant Shawcross and his children Matilda and Hayden also searched the surrounding area for rubbish.
They collected three bags of recyclable waste, metal and other hard rubbish.
Fellow volunteer Janice Wilson thanked everyone who braved the conditions to help out.
“We had a very successful day. It’s only a small thing but it all helps in keeping the environment healthy,” she said.
“Our goal is to stop rubbish entering our waterways and rivers to prevent birds and fish from ingesting and entangling themselves in the waste.”
